FREE light displays to check out in & around Calgary before the end of this holiday season

‘Tis the season for sugar cookies, gifts and dazzling decorations. December has nearly come and gone and you deserve to experience all there is to see and do before it’s too late!

Don’t want to let the most colourful tradition of the year pass you by? Here are just a few places you can see Christmas lights in Calgary for FREE!

Airdrie Festival of Lights

Who knew that Western Canada’s largest FREE outdoor walk-through display was right outside of Calgary? This season, bundle up and head to Airdire for their big festival of lights. Drink hot chocolate, take a lap around the ice rink, snap photos, and cozy up next to their fire, it’s going to be enchanting.

When: Friday, December 1st – 31st, 2023

Time: 6 pm – 9 pm

In search of Christmas Spirit

This holiday season, celebrate the season in Banff, where a heartwarming story will be told through colour, illumination, and music. Though tickets will be required, this event is totally FREE to attend so don’t miss it!

When: Various dates from November 17th and December 31st, 2023
Where: Cascades of Time Garden – Cave Avenue, Banff, Alberta

Lions Festival of Lights

Grab a friend, a family member or someone special and take in the beautiful lights along 14th Street in Calgary! The Lions Festival of Lights is back and it’s just as magical as ever. Dress warm, grab a hot chocolate and enjoy!

When: Saturday November 25th, 2023 – January 8th, 2024
Where: Confederation Golf Course – 14th Street NW, Calgary
Time:  6 pm – 12 am
Cost: Free

Legacy

Celebrate community! Legacy’s Community Light Display will kick off again this December and you won’t want to miss it. This FREE event will light the night with over a million tiny bulbs strung up on everything from the clock tower to the houses and it’s going to be breathtaking!

When: Friday December 1st, 2023 – January 14th, 2024

Lighten UP Calgary 

What’s more fun than cranking the Christmas music and driving around Calgary to look at all of the lights people have strung up on their houses? This year, refer to the Lighten UP Calgary map – where proud residents have added their over-the-top displays in hopes of getting festive visitors.

Light Up the Lake

Up for a drive? This winter, Sylvan will ‘Light up the Lake‘ with 300,000 twinkling LEDs that will continue to make the season bright until March of 2024.
