Calgary, we’ve got some great news! Despite a year of hardships and uncertainty of all sorts, a brand new winter roundup in YYC is going ahead this month and it’s going to change our winters for the better from here on out. We’re talking about the first annual Chinook Blast powered by Shaw, a celebration of winter and the vibrancy of our city that is here to stay for the long haul. Let’s check it out!
Starting Saturday, February 13th, Chinook Blast will be filling Calgary’s downtown with lights, art, installations, and pop-ups that will warm your soul no matter how cold it is.
All of these installations will be outdoors or set up for proper physical-distancing so enjoying Chinook Blast safely will be easy as can be.
Chinook Blast will be kicking off this weekend on Saturday, February 13th, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. After that, it run Fridays through Sundays from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM until Sunday, February 28th, so you’ll have a bunch of chances to check out each and every spot.
Now, what can you expect from Chinook Blast? Well, a whole lot, but we’ll break it down for you!
The first annual roundup is made up of three main components: The Hub, Partner Pop-Ups, and Friends of Chinook Blast.
The Hub is a stunning outdoor art park that goes from the East Village down through Stephen Ave then up along 3rd Street SW. Trust us, you’re going to want to bring your phones and best winter outfits to snap some pics here!
The Partner Pop-Ups will have art installations set up throughout many of downtown Calgary’s neighbouring communities, including Inglewood, Chinatown, Kensington, Crescent Heights, and Victoria Park. Again, be photo-ready because these are going to be fantastic to look at!
Last and certainly not least is the Friends of Chinook Blast, which will include virtual events and performances from some of Calgary’s most celebrated artists and creatives.
