One of Alberta’s most haunting fall experiences is in Canada’s 4th longest cave

Are you feeling brave? Those who think they can handle tight spaces and a couple of jump scares should consider checking out Canmore Cave Tours in Alberta this fall.

Located inside Grotto Mountain, Rats Nest Cave is the fourth longest in Canada and this particular tour company has more than 30 years of experience exploring the area no matter the weather.

Named after the bushy-tailed wood rat who lives in the entrance, those who aren’t claustrophobic can take several tours and courses throughout the year—but Halloween is different.

In addition to a routine expedition, guests will watch ‘The Descent’ (2006), a horror movie about caving while underground in complete darkness, surrounded by creepy crawlies.

What to expect

Your spooktacular evening will start from the Canmore Cave Tours office with a brief and eerie overview.

After signing a waiver, you’ll watch the first half of the movie “in order to prepare you for what’s to come,” then collect your gear.

After this, you’ll hike to and enter Rats Nest Cave—a chilly, dark, and deep place where you’ll stay for approximately 3 hours.

Think you can handle it? Dress warm, leave the kids at home (this is an 18+ event) and stay alert.

You never know what could be lurking in the shadows.

Good luck and happy caving!
