Canada is home to the largest winter carnival in the world & it runs for 10 days

If the holiday season is your favourite time of year, tune in, because Canada happens to be home to the largest winter carnival in the world.

For 10 days every year, the Carnaval de Quebec transforms Quebec City into a massive snow festival, complete with ice sculptures, decorations, lights, and multiple activity sites.

Popular attractions in the past have included a night parade, an outdoor music festival, a 30-foot climbing wall made of ice, a tubing park, a freezing boat race, and cocktails in frozen glasses.

History of Bonhomme

A beloved representative of the fest, Bonhomme, typically leads the festivities dressed in his iconic red toque and arrow sash. However, organizers have announced that the carnival is heading in a new direction in 2024, so visitors can expect to meet a new “king of festivities” this coming year for its 70th anniversary.

The character of Bonhomme first made an appearance in Quebec in 1955 at the Porte Saint-Louis, where he invited the public to partake in a winter celebration like no other.
