Canadian investor will be among first private visitors to the space station

Yesterday, the Houston-based spaceflight and aerospace tech company Axiom announced the first-ever private visit to the space station. What’s more, the name of a Montreal-based businessman has landed on the list. Let’s check it out!

The program is called Ax-1. Basically, it will take 4 people up to the International Space Station, spend 8 days there, and then return to earth. Apparently, the purpose of the flight is ‘research and philanthropic’ projects. Leading the charge is former astronaut Michael López-Alegría, who’s currently VP of Axiom.

And, Canadian investor Mark Pathy is among the other 3 people in the very exclusive crew. Pathy is working with the Canadian Space Agency and the Montreal Children’s Hospital to figure out research projects to conduct up there. The price paid for the honour? A whopping $55M USD, each.

Yeah, we’re thinking this is more about getting to say ‘first’ and then bragging about it at the golf club. We don’t blame them though, we’d probably dish out the cash if it chump change for us, too.

You can check out the full press release about the voyage right here. Enjoy the day, folks!
