Canada to lift travel restrictions on fully vaxxed residents July 5th — Here’s what to know

If you’re a fully vaccinated Canadian looking to travel, listen up. After what has felt like a lifetime of ongoing rules and regulations when it comes to leaving the country, new developments are making travel easier than it’s been in ages. Canada will finally be lifting most restrictions for citizens and permanent residents who are fully vaccinated as early as July 5th.

That’s right, people. Maybe that post-pandemic vacation isn’t quite as far away as we’d thought?? The change in regulations was announced this morning. With the new guidelines, those who are eligible to enter the country will be able to do so without self-isolating for 14 days or staying at a quarantine hotel.

Of course, the key to all this is fully vaccinated citizens and permanent residents. This means in order to travel (and be permitted to re-enter Canada), you’ll need to have the full required dosage of any Health Canada approved vaccine at least 14 days before entering the country. You’ll also have to provide proof of vaccination and you will be required to disclose certain information at the border through the ArriveCAN app.

Although these new guidelines make it a little easier to book that vacay you’ve been craving, the government still strongly advises against non-essential travel at this time. While vaccines continue to roll out and we all do our part to slow the spread, hopping on a plane is not exactly encouraged. However, these changes do provide a nice glimpse at the light at the end of the tunnel.

More information on the border closure between Canada and the U.S. has yet to be released. At this time, the countries are barred from non-essential travel until at least July 21st.
