Canada’s spring forecast just dropped & most provinces are in for a wild ride

We’re just a few weeks away from the official start of spring, and The Weather Network has unveiled Canada’s spring forecast to give us an idea of what to expect. Spoiler alert — we may be inching closer to warmer days, but winter weather won’t be going down without a fight in most provinces.

Chief Meteorologist with The Weather Network Chris Scott predicts that while we’ll definitely get tastes of mild weather this spring, Canadians can expect an “especially tumultuous” season ahead.

“Periods of warm spring weather will be a delightful contrast to winter’s fury which we’ve all experienced at times during the past three months,
he said.

“However, this will be a case of two steps forward and one step back, as we’ll see several more bouts of winter-like weather before spring finally hits its stride across the country.”

Ontario and Quebec can look forward to some very early and very warm spring weather this season. However, residents will have their patience tested with some “significant setbacks” and above-average precipitation.

British Columbians can expect a slower than average start to spring and colder temperatures than normal. The good news is that it makes for great skiing conditions and lowers the risk of an early start to wildfire season.

The Prairies are in for “turbulent temperatures” this spring, the outlet says. Near normal precipitation is expected, but with soil moisture well below normal in southern Alberta, the conditions will be closely monitored as the growing season approaches.

Atlantic Canada is coming off of a mild winter, but all of that could change with the approach of spring. Temperature swings and an active storm track are expected and late-season winter storms are possible.

We Canadians are no strangers to whacky weather, so hold onto your hats because it looks like we’re in for a bumpy ride this spring.
