While retirement may seem further out of reach after the past eighteen months, it turns out that Canada is actually a great place to retire, so much so that we’ve ranked in the top 10 places to retire globally.
Natixis Investment Managers’ just released its 2021 Global Retirement Index and Canada came in #10 overall, a small drop from last year’s ranking of #8.
According to a snapshot of the overall ranking, quality of life percentages are down to 75% in 2021 from 77% in 2020, and finances in retirement are down to 69% in 2021 from 72% in 2020.

If you’re wondering how this ranking was determined, Natixis looked at 4 main concerns for global retirement security. They include material wellbeing, finances in retirement, health, and quality of life.
Keep in mind that Canada was able to raise its material wellbeing to 69% in 2021 from 66% in 2020 and our overall health percentage remained stable at 86%.
Despite battling a pandemic rife with economic hardships, Canada still ranked in the top 20 for all four main concerns in the 2021 GRI, #10 for finances in retirement, #11 in health, #16 in quality of life, and #19 in material wellbeing.
