These Canadian airlines have cancelled flights & here’s what to know

From east to west, multiple Canadian airlines have issued flight cancellations before the holidays due to winter storms sweeping across the country.

Blizzard conditions, heavy snowfalls and bellow freezing temperatures are affecting flights on Friday, resulting in select airlines either cancelling, or revising trips for the day and even throughout the weekend.

Though Canadian weather tends to be unpredictable, meteorologists at The Weather Network have called the anticipated weather event, a ‘generational storm’.

To ensure everyone’s safety, the following airlines have cancelled flights as of Friday:

Sunwing

Sunwing has cancelled flights from select locations in B.C., Alberta and Winnipeg airports until Christmas Day. In Toronto, select flights have been cancelled for December 23 and rescheduled for December 24. It’s important to stay updated and you can do so on the Sunwing website.

WestJet

If you’re travelling before the holidays, it’s important to note that WestJet has cancelled flights to and from Toronto, London, Ottawa, Waterloo and Quebec as of 9:00 A.M., on Friday, December 23 until the end of day. The same goes for flights to and from Vancouver, Abbotsford, Victoria, Nanaimo and Comox. They expect to restart dependent on weather conditions by Saturday.

Though a few select flights are still “on time”, many flights are already cancelled out of Toronto for flights within Ontario and to Quebec.

Porter Airlines

Porter Airlines has cancelled several flights out of Toronto and other cities for domestic trips. If you’re flying out of Toronto to Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and other destinations, make sure to check your flight status if you haven’t already.
