This Ontario park is known for being one of Canada’s best hidden gems for camping

Ontario is full of incredible camping spots. Aside from the obvious choices like Algonquin and Bruce Peninsula, there are some destinations that are considered hidden gem campsites in Ontario.

Scouts Canada interviewed 46,704 members to find out which campsites are worth the hype and the lesser-known spots that are equally as incredible.

When it comes to hidden gems, the Scouters that were surveyed named Bon Echo Provincial Park as the best in the province.

In addition to soaking up the stunning views, you can paddle beneath soaring cliffs and hike through the forest as part of your camping excursion at Bon Echo, which is located in southeastern Ontario.

“The park features several pristine Canadian Shield lakes which provide a secluded experience,” says Ontario Parks in its camping section.

“Visitors may be able to spot moose foraging or red cardinal flowers growing along the marshy banks in August.”

Other activities include rock climbing, fishing, hunting, biking, boating, as well as paddle boarding, paddle boat, and kayak rentals.

The main attraction of this park is Mazinaw Rock, which towers 100 metres high and features over 260 Indigenous pictographs.

As far as accommodations go, there is a bit of everything at Bon Echo, including RV and car camping grounds, backcountry sites, and roofed accommodations.

Camping is available well into October at Bon Echo, and you can reserve your spot online or by phone.

Information on Bon Echo Provincial Park is from Ontario Parks, and is accurate as of publication date.
