Earlier today, the Calgary City Council announced a plan to rescind the city’s mask bylaw, and according to the city, the changes will be officially be coming into effect later on today. The decision comes just a few days after their last meeting, which had the original mask bylaw stay in place until July 31st.
Since then, the city administration has highlighted decreasing COVID-related cases and hospitalizations to support rescinding the bylaw. The new move brings the city into line with most other municipalities in the province. And, just in time for the return of Stampede!

It should be noted that there are a few places where mask-wearing is mandatory. These are mostly healthcare-related facilities, public transit, and other forms of shared transportation like shuttles, taxis, and ride-share vehicles. You can learn more about that right here.
As Alberta continues to roll out the vaccination program, we will mention that not all those who are eligible for 2 doses have been able to receive them yet. So, we’d like to remind our readers to respect the personal healthcare decisions of those around them. After all, we are just a few short weeks away from being able to provide all those who would like to be vaccinated with 2 doses.
