The end is near! Unfortunately, for those who live in Calgary, 2020 won’t go out with much of a bang. According to a release just sent out by the city, the annual New Year’s Eve fireworks will be cancelled in compliance with health and safety guidelines amid the COVID pandemic.

“However, public safety and therefore physical distancing must be our top priority during this second wave of the pandemic. Once it’s safe for Calgarians to gather once again, we’ll work with event organizers to bring amazing events back to Calgary’s streets, parks and venues.”
Instead, this year, officials recommended alternatives like, tobogganing, winter walking, outdoor skating and/or renting out one of the city’s new free to use firepits.
No, things won’t be the same without Calgary’s New Year’s Eve fireworks – but it’s for the best. Just think about how wild their NYE budget will be for next year! Please remember to be safe out there – we’re almost in the clear, folks. We’ve got this!
