5 of the best views to take in a Calgary sunset

Now that it’s stopped raining for two seconds (knock on wood), it’s time to make up for lost time and speed-run through all of your favourite summer activities that you haven’t quite gotten around to yet. And if taking in a sunset is on your summer bucket list, we know five of the best views in the city. So grab a partner or a pal, and enjoy the great outdoors — while we still can!

Scotsman’s Hill

Is there a better lookout point for the cityscape? We think not. This iconic lookout spot in Ramsay is heavily frequented by viewers wanting to watch the Stampede fireworks, but it’s just as fantastic for taking in a sunset.

Where: Salisbury Street SE

East Village Riverwalk

An underrated gem among go-to Calgary lookout points, but astounding nonetheless. There are plenty of places to sit atop the hill behind the riverbank and take it all in, and the central location is perfect for people who don’t want to venture out of downtown.

Where: 6th St. and 6th Ave. SE

Nose Hill Park

This natural environment park in the northwest covers 11 square kilometres. The shining example of a grassland ecosystem is perfect for watching sunsets, because there isn’t as much light pollution getting in the way.

Where: 6465 14th St. NW

Glenmore Reservoir

Glenmore Reservoir is a popular spot for sunset viewings, and for good reason. The calm waters reflect the colours of the setting sun beautifully, so be sure to bring a camera for some remarkable shots.

Where: 7305 Crowchild Tr. SW

Crescent Heights Lookout Point

Another fantastic lookout point lies in the northwest of the city. Crescent Heights Lookout Point is a go-to location for locals who want to take in a panoramic view of the city. The downtown skyline plus the beautiful Bow River equals the best of Calgary, all in one lookout.

Where: 240 Crescent Rd. NW
