Calgary just extended the city’s mask bylaw past Canada Day

Alright YYC, we’ve got important news! Despite The provincial government lifting nearly all restrictions on Canada Day, city council has voted to keep the Calgary mask bylaw in place until at least July the 5th.

From restaurants to public transit, Calgarians will be required to keep their face coverings on just a few days longer in hopes of having as many people fully immunized as possible.

“We know that some people will find the removal of rules surrounding face coverings too soon, and for others, it cannot come soon enough,” said Chief of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency, Sue Henry in a press release.

“However, extending mandatory face coverings for an additional short period of time will ensure we have time to see more people get fully vaccinated and also allow us to monitor any impact of summer re-openings.”

Until the 5th (when the city will actually revisit the issue again) the city’s $500 fine for not wearing a mask will still be in place, so don’t get caught up, YYC!

We know that it’s going to be tough knowing that the rest of Alberta is moving full speed ahead into stage three but it might only be 5 more days!

We’ve had to follow these guidelines for over a year, so we can definitely handle this!

We’re SO close – but it’s better to be safe than sorry!
