Calgary is considering turning downtown office buildings into apartment complexes

Downtown Calgary is already a hip-happenin’ place, but the city council has an idea that could see its residential population skyrocket.

Later today, Tuesday, December 15th, city officials will discuss converting existing office buildings into apartment complexes. Fun right?

This may come as no surprise to some of you, but right now, office space vacancy is significantly higher than in years past and due to the success of remote work,  this won’t likely change after COVID.

In order to keep the inner city thriving, some councillors like Ward 7’s Druh Farrell and Ward 6’s, Jeff Davison believe that this could be the answer.

Heck, it’s been done once, it could be done again! Strategic’s Cube building in the Beltline is a perfect example of this. This once quiet building is now a cute, dog-friendly conveniently located home to several tenants.

So what do you guys think? Do you think that this could be what breathes some life back into Downtown Calgary? Let us know!
