With Metro Vancouver transformed into a winter wonderland, it’s tempting to spend the day outside playing in the snow or inside cozied up on your sofa. But as it’s ‘business as usual’ for the majority of us, it’s important to note multiple closures and delays due to the current snowstorm in BC – primarily via TransLink and at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
Now, we come to TransLink updates.

On Tuesday afternoon, TransLink issued an advisory that is still currently in effect:
“Due to snowy conditions on Jan 17th in Metro Vancouver, transit service is impacted across the system, delays and cancellations are expected.”
Commuters are encouraged to use TransLink services for “essential travel only,” giving themselves extra travel time to accommodate bus and SkyTrain delays or reduced service.
“We continue to salt and sand bus loops and SkyTrain stations, but please use caution in these areas; there may be extra crowding on some bus routes and SkyTrain platforms.”
Currently, there are 263 bus alerts, 7 SkyTrain alerts, and one SeaBus alert on TransLink’s alert page. Passengers can navigate to their affected bus or train routes by searching by route number.
Stay tuned for more info as it comes, including up-to-date alerts via TransLink and Vancouver International Airport.
Metro Vancouver residents can also call TransLink’s Customer Information Services line (604-953-3333) until 10 pm, or reach out on Twitter/X until 12:30 am.
Note that the snowfall warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is still in effect until Wednesday night across Metro Vancouver, and up to 20 cm of snow is expected to accumulate on the mainland by the afternoon.
So there you have it, Metro Vancouverites! Try to avoid any travel that isn’t essential today, and stay safe out there.
