Botanical gardens in Calgary to visit this spring

There’s something about spring in Calgary that makes you want to get outside a little more. As the city starts to green up again, botanical gardens are an amazing way to take it all in at a slower pace.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet walk or a scenic spot to explore, here are some really great gardens to check out this season.

Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs

Starting strong with a personal favourite of mine, the Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs. This peaceful garden is located in northwest Calgary and is completely volunteer-run. The community puts immense care into the garden, making it the perfect place for a spring stroll. Throughout the park, you can find over 30 gardens featuring bright flowers that allow for some amazing photo ops.

Time: Open 24 hours
Where:
5720 Silver Ridge Dr. NW, Calgary, Alta.

Reader Rock Garden

Reader Rock Garden is a spot that feels like an escape right in the heart of the city. Between the rock pathways and blooming flowers, it’s the perfect spot to spend an afternoon exploring and enjoying nature.

Time: Open 24 hours
Where: 325 25th Ave. SE, Calgary, Alta.

Devonian Gardens

A full-on garden in the middle of the mall isn’t something you see every day, but the Devonian Gardens is exactly that. Located inside the CORE, it’s packed with greenery, fountains, and even fish ponds so that you can enjoy shopping and nature all at once.

Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: 324 8th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

Beaulieu Gardens

With a name that literally means “beautiful place,” Beaulieu Gardens really lives up to it. Tucked in the Beltline, this garden blends historic charm with peaceful green space and features gorgeous flower beds that feel straight out of a storybook. Honestly, if you’ve ever wanted to live out your Bridgerton story moment, this is the place to go.

Time: Open 24 hours
Where: 707 13th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

Dorothy Harvie Gardens

If you’re on the hunt for a slightly more elevated garden experience, Dorothy Harvie Gardens is a great pick. Located inside the Calgary Zoo is six acres of greenery, fruit trees, and vibrant, blooming flowers, making it feel like a full experience rather than just a quick walk.

Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 210 St. George’s Dr. NE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: General Admission starting at $31.95

So take this as your sign to go outside and romanticize spring a little bit.

Now all that’s left to do is choose a sunny day, go for a walk, and enjoy a little break from everything else going on.
