There’s a lakeside Ontario town known worldwide for its amazing autumn scenery

If you’ve heard the famous song “Bobcaygeon” by The Tragically Hip, you may have wondered what magical spot they were talking about. Bobcaygeon is a lakeside town in the Kawartha Lakes region. The area draws people from all over the world to experience the stunning fall foliage, while the local businesses and shops add the small-town charm everyone loves.

Bobcaygeon is the perfect distance for a little day trip away from the city.

The small town is two hours by car from Toronto/the GTA and just under four hours by car from Ottawa.

If you’re coming to check out the fall foliage, the Bobcaygeon Wilderness Park is one of the best places to do so.

The area spans over eight acres of accessible trails for walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing through forested land.

Don’t take our word for just how beautiful the autumn colours are. Bobcaygeon’s tourism website states, “We’re known worldwide for our spectacular autumn scenery and now it’s that time of year when it all comes together.”

If not for the scenery and an amazing song, we can surely thank Bobcaygeon for giving us one thing: Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream.

Yep! The ice cream brand you know, love, and have likely seen somewhere in the province originated in Bobcaygeon.

According to Kawartha Dairy, “Although it has grown tremendously from its early days, it remains headquartered in Bobcaygeon, where it was founded. In 1937, Jack and Ila Crowe took a leap of faith and bought a small dairy in Bobcaygeon.”

Don’t forget to explore the local businesses. Cafes, furniture stores, jewelry shops, clothing stores, and antique stores line the streets of the town, with most in close proximity to each other, which means you can park your car and explore multiple spots on foot.

If you need a bite to eat, the Wheatsheaf Cafe is a personal favourite of mine. For a more elevated dining experience, Amici Pasta Bar is another popular choice, with a menu full of Italian classics.

Bobcaygeon is callin’!
