Get ready to shop, Edmonton, because the Black Futures Market is coming this weekend! This event, which comes from the Black-Own Market collective, happens on Saturday and Sunday, and we’ve got the lowdown before things kick off.
Kicking off in July of 2020, the Black-Owned Market offered a way for shoppers to directly support Black-owned businesses in the city. That wasn’t the end of it, though, as BOM YEG continued to host a variety of markets over the past few years, focusing on both Black-owned businesses and other minority groups.

For this instalment, BOM has partnered with the Art Gallery of Alberta to host it! The market, which is free with RSVP so long as you purchase admission to the gallery, will be taking place in the AGA’s Manning Hall space. Once there, you’ll be able to browse over 15 Black-owned vendors and businesses. What’s more, they’ll be offering everything from apparel to jewelry to home goods.
And, for the first time ever, BOM YEG is able to accept donations for a charitable cause! Those wishing to donate should know that their money will go towards Edmonton’s Black Community Fund, a first-of-its-kind endowment focused ‘enhancing the quality of life for the Black Community in the Greater Edmonton Area’.
If you’re looking to do a little shopping this weekend (and in a very nice space), then we can’t recommend this enough.
