RE/MAX defines liveability as “the qualities that give each homeowner the true satisfaction of living in their neighbourhood, such as access to affordable homes, green space, restaurants, entertainment or other amenities. Liveability is largely related to lifestyle preferences, and is entirely subjective.”

To come up with the list, RE/MAN partnered with data analytics company Local Logic1 to “compile top lists of neighbourhoods within some of Canada’s biggest and growing real estate markets, based on liveability factors that Canadians said were most important to them in the Leger survey”

The survey includes “affordability, proximity to work, easily walkable, access to green spaces and parks, proximity to health or medical services, low-density neighbourhoods, proximity to public transit, easily driveable, proximity to preferred childcare/schools, access to bike lanes/walking paths, a neighbourhood with diverse cultures and ethnicities, and high-density neighbourhoods.”

Starting with the top neighbourhood list, these are the best in Toronto according to the report:

  • St. James Town
  • Moss Park
  • Garden District
  • Bay Street Corridor
  • Old Town
  • St. Lawrence
  • Church & Wellesley
  • Entertainment District
  • Regent Park
  • Corktown

Along with the top neighbourhoods, RE/MAX identified eight neighbourhoods as the city’s most up-and-coming:

  • Leaside
  • East York
  • Trinity-Bellwood’s
  • The Beaches-Leslieville
  • Davisville
  • Midtown
  • South Etobicoke
  • Bloor West

All eight areas “have key elements in common: they are mature neighbourhoods with renovated and modernized homes with character.”

Do you agree with RE/MAX’s list of the best Toronto neighbourhoods to live in this year?
