10 of the best things to do in & around Seattle this week (May 1-5)

Welcome to May, Seattle! Spring is well underway and a new month is here. There’s plenty to do and see, from live performances to concerts, eats, shopping, and more. Here are 10 of the best things to do in & around Seattle this week.

$10 Pizza Mondays

Mondays don’t have to be so bad. Every Monday you can score $10 pizzas from 5 PM-9 PM. Reservations are encouraged, dine-in only, 90-minute limit on tables, it gets busy!

Head to a local nursery and get your spring garden started

Chances are after the long winter, your garden is patiently waiting for a little TLC. The time is now to get out there and start getting your seeds and starts organizing for a great season of gardening. To make things even better, Seattle and the surrounding area have tons of great gardening stores and we’ve listed them out for you.

Go for a walk in the park

Not just any old park, but one of Seattle’s spectacularly scenic gardens. Our city has a ton of them scattered around the city and many happen to be free. Whether you want to go near or far we have plenty of options for you.

Free Public Tours of Washington Park Arboretum

The Arboretum is one of Seattle’s best spots for getting outdoors, especially in the summer. While you can walk it by yourself at any time, you can also enjoy free tours on the first Thursday of each month from 11:30 am-1 pm.

Check out a new wine bar

The new bar and bottle shop opened in the Electric Tea Garden space and focuses on bringing small producer wines to Seattle. You can try new wines by the glass and of course the bottle. According to the spaces website they also have a snack bar although there’s no menu currently listed.

TRANSlations

The 18th annual Seattle Trans Film Festival takes place this May. It’s produced by Three Dollar Bill Cinema, and is “dedicated to showcasing films by, for, and about trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people.” It is one of three transgender film festivals in the US and one of only a few in the world!

Washington State Apple Blossom Festival

The Washington State Apple Blossom Festival runs from April 27th to May 7th and historically has celebrated Wenatchee’s legacy as one of the nation’s premier apple-growing regions. One of the main draws about the festival is the fact that it actually has the seventh largest carnival in the nation.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

The first week of May is here and that means it’s time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Seattle has tons of great Mexican restaurants where you can celebrate and we’ve created a list of them.

Polachek is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, and producer known for her genre-bending approach to music. With her angelic voice and innovative production techniques, she creates ethereal and emotive pop that defies easy categorization. It’s a must-see concert in our books.

Marsden Hartley: An American Nature

One of Seattle’s best museums just so happens to be free! Head to the Frye to see works from American modernist artist Marsden Hartley. His works responded to the “Depression-era cultural and commercial desire for all things homegrown”
