Toronto’s Winter Village ranked one of the best Christmas markets in the world

The world is full of Hallmark movie-worthy destinations that are dreamy to visit during the holidays, but it looks like Toronto is home to one of the best Christmas markets in the world in 2022.

Travel website Planet Cruise has released its annual ranking of the best Christmas markets worldwide, “based on factors like number of stalls, open dates and TripAdvisor ratings.”

The Distillery District Winter Village has landed in third place out of 25 Christmas markets around the world.

The iconic Toronto event has over 650 social media posts and a TripAdvisor review score of 4.5, according to Planet Cruise.

It lands just after Hyde Park Winter Wonderland in London and before Spruce Meadows Christmas Market in Calgary.

“Distillery District, this annual holiday market typically attracts thousands of visitors every year with one of the largest Christmas trees in the city, as well as stunning twinkly lights, festive treats, gifts from local vendors and seasonal decorations,” says the ranking.

“Take a ride on the vintage carousel, be amazed by hand-crafted ornaments, sit back with a drink in a beer garden or grab a cup of hot chocolate and a schnitzel from one of the food stalls.”

Planet Cruise has also named Canada as one of the most festive countries in the world alongside places like Germany, the U.K., Austria, Belgium, and France. This is based on the number of Christmas markets that are hosted in each country.

The Distillery District kicked off its opening with a tree-lighting celebration on November 17th and will remain open through the holiday season.

Designed by Parfums Christian Dior, this year’s 50-foot White Spruce tree features 400 custom midnight blue ornaments, 1,700 shiny and matte gold balls, 70,000 twinkling lights, and 1,000 custom Dior star charms.

The tree alone makes this event worth placing at the top of any Christmas market ranking.
