Fancy a trip to one of the largest rainforests in the world? You don’t have far to travel in BC. Situated at the entrance of the famed Great Bear Rainforest, the small community of Bella Coola offers plenty of outdoor thrills for adventurers of all kinds, whether you’re into hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, or heli-skiing. Let’s get into it!
During the colder months, the valley’s snow-covered mountains tower over the community, blanketed by a cold fog.
Winter sports enthusiasts can hit the slopes at the Bella Coola Heli Sports or the Great Bear Heli Skiing – or opt for a more relaxed snowy adventure at Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, which has both groomed and ungroomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
In the spring and summertime, Great Bear Sailing Adventures offers unique and eco-friendly sailing tours, providing visitors with an unparalleled experience entering the valley.
According to the community’s website, the tours are led by experienced guides who are knowledgeable about the local ecology.
Pro climbers and beginners alike can enjoy tackling the area’s range of granite and limestone rock formations, which include “multi-pitch routes and boulder problems.”
