Well, it’s been a long time coming, Calgary, but Century Gardens, downtown’s newest old greenspace has finally opened to the public after the project was delayed last October because of what else, but unseasonal snow. Surprised? We think not.
Located on 8th Street and 8th Avenue, Century Gardens was originally developed in 1975 as a way to celebrate Calgary’s centennial. As you can imagine after nearly 50 years, it was long overdue for a facelift, and man – did they go for it!

Modelled after the Rocky Mountains, the new and improved park now has two park Pavillion buildings with a public washroom and room for a park food concession; upgraded waterfalls, new lighting, grass and a ton of gorgeous sculptures, but that’s not all!
They also built in a central water splash pad and a wooden amphitheatre perfect for outdoor performances and ceremonies! Perhaps the most exciting new addition though? Security cameras!
This park has had quite the rep in the past for being a pretty popular place for ‘questionable’ behaviour, so it’s nice to know that there will be an extra set of eyes on it – just in case.
