This 4-day art and science festival lets you walk through the human body and it’s free to attend

It’s time to let your imagination spark and re-capture the guileless wonder of your youth. There’s a 4-day art and science festival coming to town, and the exhibits might just make you want to jump careers.

Beakerhead, a part of TELUS Spark Science Center, is an annual festival that’s celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and it’s happening from Thursday, September 14, to Sunday, September 17. Get ready to start things off with a bang – not the hazardous kind, though. See how art, science, and engineering collide and bring to life a whole new understanding of the world. We’re not saying it’s life-changing… but we’re also not saying it’s not.

What to expect at Beakerhead this year

The Beakerhead Festival will feature jaw-dropping installations, experiences, and performances. that will take over Contemporary Calgary and Millennium Park. Did we mention that all of it is free?!

This year will be Beakerhead’s 10th anniversary, and they’re celebrating with over 100 activities, workshops, installations, and artistic experiences suitable for the entire family.

Contemporary Calgary will serve as the BRAIN of Beakerhead and will feature a Roller Rink, a performance by artist Jadé, an NFT art exhibit, glowing forest guides, a comedic dance monologue set in outer space, a special Beakerhead Market Collective, and more.

There will be food trucks to refuel before heading next door to Millennium Park, where you’ll find FlowBot, an Adaptive Skateboard Showcase, a geometric performance by Kali Yuga and the Genesa Project and other fascinating spectacles!

It’s a wild and wacky ensemble of science and creativity, and this year’s feature installation, BODY, will take visitors on a journey through the human systems. This will be the exhibition’s first visit to North America, so it’s a real treat to have them here in Calgary!

Beakerhead is a truly weird and wonderful experience. Stop by, experience the wonder – and maybe even learn something.
