Where it all started: This parkway is Metro Vancouver’s ‘original pedestrian route’

In a pedestrian-forward city like Vancouver, we’re fortunate to have many walkable, scenic trails – but there’s one that stands out from the rest. We’re talking about Metro Vancouver’s OG recreational bike and pedestrian route, AKA the BC Parkway!

Stretching 19 kilometres from the Quay in New West all the way to False Creek in Vancouver, this expansive linear park offers a designated cycle route as well as a pedestrian-only trail along a landscaped park corridor, which includes the Highland Park Line. So the next time you want to do a bit of exploring on foot, consider checking it out!

Want to enjoy a picnic? There are plenty of parks on your journey to stop at, from Central Park to Bonsor Park, to the Stride Hill neighbourhood on the Highland Park Line.

Want to get involved with the BC Parkway Enhancement Project? The City of Burnaby is developing a long-term plan to transform the corridor between Boundary Road and the Royal Oak SkyTrain Station (AKA Parkway Alive) into a vibrant linear park, and they’re seeking public input!

Note that both the Parkway and Highland Park Line are very flat and accessible, according to the City of Burnaby. So whether you want to walk, run, or cycle it all, or hop on the SkyTrain to get back to your starting point – you can do it all.

So there you have it, Vancouver! Consider incorporating part of the Parkway on your next leisurely spring stroll!
