The Battle of Alberta set one more NHL record in a wild Game 5

While fans on both sides will forever have that no-goal call on their minds, Game 5 in the Battle of Alberta did see one final NHL record get broken. So, let’s take a breather from hurling mean words around on Twitter, and find out just what happened.

After a relatively calm first period, the game became an absolutely barnburner in the second, with a whopping 7 goals scored (4 for the Oilers and 3 for Calgary). With the game tied 2-2, and with just over 5 minutes left to play in the period, things really kicked up a notch.

Things kicked off with a powerplay goal from Zach Hyman at 14:57, to give the Oilers a 3-2 lead. The Flames bounced back quickly though, with Johnny Gaudreau tying things up at 15:21, and Calle Jarnkrok scoring less than 20 seconds after that. The Oilers, though, weren’t quite done either, as Evan Bouchard scored at 16:08, tying the game 4-4 heading into the third.

That sequence was something special. Those four goals, scored in a mere 71 seconds of game time, absolutely smashed the previous record for fastest 4 goals scored in a playoff game. So, while we have a hunch that it’s the no-goal call against Calgary in third that will be remembered most, know that the Battle of Alberta did end with a bang, and an NHL record we don’t think will get broken anytime soon.
