Here’s a dream job alert if we’ve ever seen one… a resort in the Maldives is looking for a ‘Barefoot Bookseller’, and the perks are out of this world. Hurry though, you’ve only got a few days to brush up your CV and submit the application!
Located on one of the Maldives largest islands, and in a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Soneva Fushi is a ‘hideaway resort’ that is usually reserved for the world’s wealthiest travellers. Boasting ‘barefoot luxury’, the resort’s villas start around $1,500 USD per night.

But, it’s their job posting for a ‘Barefoot Bookseller’ that really sparked our interest. Created in 2018, the role has someone running a Pop-Up Bookshop on the resort for 12 months straight. This person will sell books, sure, but will also run workshops, maintain a blog, and basically spread the word (no pun intended) about the resort itself.
And naturally, the job comes with some pretty nice perks. In addition to getting a ‘deluxe villa’ to stay in, the Barefoot Bookseller will receive a weekly salary, have access to the resort’s amenities, and basically live the island dream for an entire year.
We weren’t joking about getting your application in, either. Due to an ‘overwhelming response’, applications for the role will close next week, on August 8th. So, brush up that CV, write a little something about the last book you read, and throw your hat in this once-in-a-lifetime ring!
