Good news, nature lovers! With Alberta entering Stage 3 tomorrow, one of the most iconic parts of the Banff National Park is reopening! Johnston Canyon, a bucket list area off the Bow Valley Parkway, had been closed to vehicles throughout the spring.
Well, the loosening of restrictions means it can go back on your list. The reopening has a few different things to take note of. First off, it is only the western entrance (30km) to the trailhead that will fully reopen to cars. Meanwhile, the shorter eastern section (roughly 17km) will be open to bicycles only, at least for the time being.

What’s more, the campground at Johnston Canyon is also set to reopen, with bookings commencing in mid-July. Our advice? Well, we think this is going to be a super popular destination for the next little while. So, maybe wait a couple of weeks and try to sneak out one weekday morning. That way, you won’t be spending more time trying to park than actually exploring.
