This Ontario park has hikes through wildflower fields & it’s an autumn oasis

It’s almost the season of crisp air and colourful leaves. If you’re planning that perfect fall bucket list, then you want to put Balsam Lake Provincial Park at the top of your list.

From sandy beach and paddling to scenic hiking trails and camping, this park has it all — and it arguably gets even better as summer transitions into fall.

This park offers camping until the end of October and you’ll be sleeping under canopies of red, orange, and gold leaves.

Campers love the Lookout Trail, which is a 2.1 km hike through eskers and kames formed over 10,000 years ago from the Wisconsin Glacier.

It offers panoramic views of the whole area, which is extra breathtaking in the autumn months.

From here, you can continue onto the 1.7 km Lorie’s Link Trail to walk through fields of wildflowers and a pine plantation.

Those looking for a longer excursion will enjoy the 4.2 km Woodland Trail, described by Ontario Parks as “a moderate forest trek with both natural and pioneer highlights.”

Continue your journey on the 1.8 km Pond Loop Trail to see the pond that many aquatic species call home.

If the weather allows, you can relax on the white sand beach overlooking the shimmering blue lake.

The Trent-Severn Waterway is a haven for boaters and fishers. Plus, there are canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboards you can rent on-site.

So, whether you’re looking for a picturesque autumn day trip or the perfect final camping adventure of the year, this is the place you need to go!
