An earthquake rattled Vancouver Island & BC’s Lower Mainland this morning

Some BC residents had an interesting wake-up call this morning, as a 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook things up for people on Vancouver Island and throughout the province’s Lower Mainland.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the earthquake which was 17.3 km deep and 12 km northeast of Ganges, occurring just after 4 AM this morning. A quick look through Twitter and Reddit and you’ll see plenty of folks who felt the earthquake throughout the area.

Luckily, earthquakes of this size very rarely cause any damage other than an annoyingly early wake-up call and a little scare.

That said, the province does have a set of earthquake preparedness guidelines to ensure the general public knows what to do if and when one hits.

We’ll hope for a more peaceful rest this evening.
