This Ontario park is famous for its spectacular fall colour display

When you think of Ontario’s best nature destinations, you may think of Algonquin Provincial Park. If you didn’t get a chance to go this summer, fear not because the best time to visit is actually just beginning.

Fall in Algonquin is nothing short of spectacular. In fact, according to the official Friends of Algonquin Park website, the vibrant autumn leaves attract “thousands of visitors from around the world.”

The most popular time to visit is between mid-September to mid-October.

During the last week of September, the Sugar Maple and Red Maple trees begin to change colour.

Then, the poplars (aspens), Tamaracks, and Red Oaks follow suit, putting on a spectacular display of red, orange, and gold through October.

The vibrant hues combined with the sunshine sparkling off of the lakes will simply take your breath away, with endless hiking trails and paddling routes to soak up the views from every angle.

Ontario Parks is helping visitors prepare for this busy time of year by making 100% of all daily vehicle permits available in advance online.

Not only does this allow you to plan ahead to secure your spot, but it will allow the park to provide updates on capacity — if all the passes have been sold, this means you will not be able to visit the park, so be sure to plan ahead.

The most popular times to visit are on weekends. Ontario Parks suggests visiting between Monday and Thursday, and arriving before 10 AM as the park tends to fill up as the day goes on.

The best spot to view fall colours is along the Highway 60 corridor, between the east and west gates.

So when booking your visit, you will want to select Highway 60. You can also get a separate pass to another autumn hot spot, the Booth’s Rock Trail.

Now that you know where and when to visit, it’s time to secure that permit and pay this beautiful spot a visit!
