When it comes to the Alberta weather forecast we’ve come to expect the unexpected, but snow in June? It’ll never cease to take us by surprise.
This week, some residents were unlucky enough to see powder instead of rain and no one was really ready.

Though Environment and Climate Change Canada warned that those in high-elevation areas should brace for end-of-spring snow, those in and around Jasper and Lake Louise were not prepared for as much precipitation as they got and (in Jasper’s case) will continue to get through Tuesday afternoon.
“Accumulations of 20 to 40 cm are expected over higher elevations, with some areas exceeding 60 cm. At lower elevations wet snow will create slushy conditions and accumulations will likely be below 10 cm,” the ECCC wrote in an advisory issued on Tuesday morning.
“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
Live in or are headed to the national park? Consider taking it easy today and stay alert under trees as branches could break under the weight of the snow.
Luckily, it won’t be long until it all clears and we can get back into the swing of things – after all, June 21st is the first official day of summer 2023 and it’ll fly by.
Here’s to a sun-filled July and safe trips to and from work. If the Alberta weather forecast holds true, it’ll taper off this afternoon!
