Things change, people change and rules change, but we never saw this one coming folks. As of June 1st, gone will be the days where Albertans will be able to drive through Kananaskis without having to pull out their wallet to pay for the day or for an annual pass.
The news of a new provincial plan to begin charging visitors upon entry came today during a conference held by officials.
Jason Nixon, Minister of Environment and Parks, announced that this spring, a fee of $15 daily or $90 for the year, will be required in order to help Alberta maintain the area.

Apparently, over the last year, the park has seen a record-breaking 5.3 million visitors, making it harder and more expensive to keep trails groomed, grass green, and campsites clean.
In addition to hiring people to pick up after the litterbugs, the park will also need more staff just in case guests need assistance, have to be rescued, or require a guide of some sort.
This will all cost money, so, unfortunately, enforcing a fee does make some sense.
We’re not going to lie, this does kind of suck, but if it’s for the best, then we’re on board. Kananaskis is a beautiful place and it should be kept that way, but what do you guys think?! Will this change how often you visit? Let us know in the comments!
