Alberta park is considered one of the ‘most beautiful places on Earth’

It’s beginning to look a lot like spring. At least by Alberta standards. If you’re looking for ways to take advantage of the nicer weather, why not try a little road trip? While Canada boasts some of the most beautiful sights in the world, a specific Alberta park is still worth noting. Not only is Highwood Pass the highest paved road in the country, but it also goes through one of the most breathtaking parks in the province. All you need to bring are snacks and a good playlist!

Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, located southwest of Calgary, is a scenic 304-square-kilometre wonderland resplendent with rocky peaks, glacier lakes, and many trails to explore. According to Outside, the park is also among the “13 Most Beautiful Places on Earth You’ve Never Heard Of.”

What to expect

While less famous than Banff, the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park is revered for its postcard-perfect vistas and golden larch trees in the fall. Alberta Parks describes it as “a landscape of glacier-capped peaks surrounding the Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes.”

Check out the nearby campgrounds so you can enjoy the many hikes the area has to offer. If you’re particularly athletic, you can even bike the famed 54-kilometre Highwood Pass that goes through the park.

In addition to being a stunner on all counts, Peter Lougheed is also considered one of Canada’s most accessible parks. No matter how you visit, there are multiple barrier-free trails wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

Even if you only have time for a drive, you’ll be treated to incredible views through your window of the surrounding mountains, trees, and lakes.

Who’s ready for a little adventure?
