Anyone who’s taken a drive through one of Canada’s national parks can confirm – aside from wildlife, few things have the power to stop us in our tracks quite like a waterfall and Kakwa Falls, the tallest in Alberta, is a must-visit.
Located about 3 hours from Grande Prairie, just along the British Columbia border – these mega falls are 30 meters high, which is approximately the size of a 9-story building.

However, despite its size – this magnificent spot isn’t an easy find, as it’s hidden in 650 square kilometres of forest, creeks, lakes and mountains.
Due to its placement, it’s recommended that you bring survival gear, a GPS and some snacks for the trip because after driving to the Provincial Park, you’ll need to hike to the observation deck and day-use area.
Once there, adventurers can take pictures, have a picnic, lounge about or have a fire.
If, of course, you’d like to stay a little while longer, there is camping nearby at Deadhorse Meadows – though be warned, this isn’t a ‘glampsite’ with running water or RV access.
