Sun, fun & live music: Here’s what’s happening on ‘Alberta Day’ this year

Summer has begun to wind down, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had – especially if you live in Wild Rose Country! For its second-ever year, Alberta Day is back and here’s what we know so far.

Meant to celebrate our province’s unique spirit, culture and heritage, this non-stat was established in 2022 and showcased a ton of local artists, businesses and entertainers.

In 2023 Albertans can expect even more of the good stuff with two major parties happening on September 2nd between 11 am and 9 pm. These celebrations will be totally FREE to attend, are family-friendly will feature the following:

Edmonton

Set to rock the Alberta Legislature grounds, Edmontonians will be encouraged to attend an opening ceremony before watching live performances, taking a building tour, shopping a marketplace, or visiting the kid zone and a mini hockey rink! In addition to this, guests will also be able to hit their beer garden, presented by The Sawmill, or food trucks before headliner, folk-rock band Captain Tractor takes the stage at 8 pm.

To end the evening, look up for a drone show above the Terrace Building.

Calgary

If, however, you’re based in Calgary, check out Heritage Park! Like in Edmonton, there will be a ceremony at 11 am in their celebration tent before they kick off performances at 11:15. Visit the Alberta House, wander the marketplace or experience the kid zone, amusement park or mini hockey rink!

You’ll also be able to enjoy a cold one at the beer garden, presented by Half Hitch Brewery, food vendors and the music stylings of country band, Nice Horse – before watching a drone show at 9 pm.

Live in a smaller town? Don’t fret, because other municipalities across the province will also be hosting Alberta Day celebrations from September 1st to 3rd, with financial support from the Government of Alberta.
