From mountains and lakes to trails and rivers, Canada has it all. Few places, however, can hold a candle to Wild Rose Country – especially in the springtime.
One of the best ways to soak up the sun and stretch your legs this upcoming season? A scenic walk along one of the many boardwalks in Alberta.
Lace up your shoes and take a deep breath, here are just a few you can check out when the ice thaws.
Surrounded by trees, wildlife and surrounding trail systems, this dreamy spot is widely considered to be the ‘world’s longest freshwater boardwalk’ and should be on every Prairie folk’s provincial bucket list.

Another super popular boardwalk – but for good reason! With 3.9 km of walkway, the Poilceman’s Creek boardwalk runs alongside ponds and forested areas populated by deer, elk, ducks and birds.

One of our favourites! The boardwalk on the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff is truly something else. Though you’ll have to take the Banff Gondola to the top, here you’ll see mountain peaks, the town below and the bright blue sky above.

Located on Astotin Lake, the Living Waters Boardwalk is a 150-metre loop that only takes about 30 minutes to complete, but offers some incredible views and is a great way to get some fresh air.

The birthplace of Canada’s national parks! The Cave and Basin Natural Historic Site is a must-visit – whether you’re a local or a tourist. Here, you can wander the upper boardwalk above the bathing pavilion and peek inside the cave vent, or the lower boardwalk, which will take you through a wetland with birds and fish.

Dress warm and keep your eyes wide open! The Boardwalk alongside Elkwater Lake in Cypress Provincial Park is not one to be missed. with plenty of parking on both ends, this wheelchair-friendly walkway is truly a sight to behold.

Located in the Canadian Badlands, the Michichi Creek Boardwalk is a stunning spot with a beaver dam, a year-round wetland area and a ton of birds, fish, and mammals. Check it out and don’t forget to read the many interpretive signs detailing the area’s significance.
