Airbnb just settled a class-action lawsuit & now some Canadians are eligible for a credit

Have you checked your email this morning? From coast to coast, Canadian travellers who booked accommodations through Airbnb over the last few years have received a notice stating that they may be entitled to a credit from the platform. Here’s what you need to know!

Due to the $6 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit that alleged Airbnb displayed two different prices at the booking and purchasing stages of its site; Northerners who stayed at one of their properties between October 31st, 2015 and June 25th, 2019 could be eligible for up to $45.

Unfortunately, this does not include Quebec residents or those whose trip was purely for business. Sorry, friends!

These credits can not be converted into cash and must be redeemed within two years on their next booking and no – it doesn’t even matter where you stayed! What does matter, however, is that you still have an active account in good standing with the company when the credit is issued, so double check your log-in’s Canada!

If you meet their ‘criteria’ getting your credit is easy as pie. All you have to do is submit your claim at the link at the bottom of the email you received before March 28th, 2022 and voila!

Credits will be applied to your account by May 27th, but it’s important to note that you won’t be able to combine this offer with another (such as discounts of other credits).

Of course, because this is a legal issue, it can all be very confusing – so if you require any more information, you can view Deloitte’s Airbnb Settlement FAQ website here.
