A scenic drive and ferry will take you to this remote floating resort

Washington has some pretty spectacular places to stay. But there aren’t many spots that top Ross Lake Resort. The resort is located on the remote and beautiful Ross Lake way up in the North Cascades. While tricky to get to, it’s absolutely worth visiting.

What exactly is it? The resort is the remains of a floating camp used by crews of workers logging the valley as it was flooded in 1952. Today there are 15 cabins that you can choose to stay in during an open season that runs from June until October each year.

The trip to Ross Lake entails a 3-hour drive and a quick ferry. And while staying at the resort is one of the main draws you can also choose to make a quick day trip or camp in the area. Because due to the resort’s unique nature, it does book up quickly.

If you’re looking to get out of town for a bit, we highly suggest that you check out Ross Lake. After all, it’s probably one of the only places where you can rent houseboats in pristine wilderness. Not only that but summer is truly the prime time to enjoy all that the North Cascades has to offer.
