Here are the popular BC highways now closed to non-essential travel

Well folks, it’s not exactly a surprise considering last week’s events, but a few popular BC highways are now closed to non-essential travel. As well, a couple of really big highways are simply closed, with no detours available. Here’s what to know.

First up, a major portion Highway 5 (the Coquihalla Highway) remains closed between Othello and Merritt for the foreseeable future. Additionally, a stretch of Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) is closed between Lytton and Spencers Bridge. These two highways are completely closed, and an estimated time of reopening is not available.

Additionally, the provincial government has used the recent State of Emergency to close three BC highways to non-essential travel. These are:

  • Highway 99- Closed 9km north of Pemberton to Lillooet
  • Highway 3- Closed 17 to 54 km east of Hope (prevents access to EC Manning Provincial Park)
  • Highway 7- Closed between Agassiz and Hope

For those looking to have a weekend getaway sometime soon, know that these routes are not available. For more information on ongoing road closures around BC, you can click here. If you’d like to see an overview of BC’s highways in general, check out the DriveBC website. Stay safe out there, folks!
