A BC Vaccine Card is coming this September — Here’s what to know

On Monday, British Columbia Premier John Horgan announced that a new BC Vaccine Card would be in place starting in September. This new card will function as a ‘vaccination passport’, allowing those who have received 1 (and then 2) doses of a vaccination to enjoy non-essential services.

Starting on September 13th, the new BC Vaccine Card will require everyone aged 12 and older to receive at least 1 dose of an approved COVID vaccine before taking part in a litany of services or activities.

At the moment, the list includes:

  • indoor ticketed sporting events;
  • indoor concerts;
  • indoor theatre/dance/symphony events;
  • restaurants (indoor and patio dining);
  • night clubs;
  • casinos;
  • movie theatres;
  • fitness centres/gyms (excluding youth recreational sport);
  • businesses offering indoor high-intensity group exercise activities;
  • organized indoor events (eg. weddings, parties, conferences, meetings, workshops);
  • discretionary organized indoor group recreational classes and activities.

Then, starting on October 24th, the requirement will be bumped up to being fully vaccinated. While a BC Vaccine Card suggests a paper copy, the vast majority of people will be able to access their own vaccination history via secure website. For those without internet access, a dedicated phone service will be created to verify their vaccination status.

In addition to residents, these requirements will extend to all travellers wishing to visit the province. The BC Vaccine Card will be in place until at least January 31st, 2022, but may be extended as needed. For more information, you can check out the official press release right here.
