After what the past two years have put us through, it’s safe to say that pretty much everyone has high hopes for 2022, especially the organizers of Toronto’s biggest events. Many of the city’s largest festivals are planning to be back in full swing this year and are starting to announce what they have cooking for 2022. If all goes according to plan, we’ve got tons of concerts, carnivals, art shows, and food fests to look forward to this year.
Here are 10 of the biggest Toronto events planning to make a comeback in 2022.
After two years of closures for Toronto’s iconic late-summer fair, it looks like we’ll finally get to go to The Ex this summer. The CNE has been quietly selling admission tickets on its website for the upcoming season, slated for August 19th to September 5th, 2022. No announcements have been made just yet, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
Caribana is set to make a comeback this July 2022 and we can’t wait. According to the current schedule, the official launch of the Caribbean Carnival will be held on July 20th and the Grand Parade will take place on July 30th. Fingers crossed that it all goes according to plan!
The City of Toronto says that the all-night contemporary art festival held every fall plans to return to its regular format in 2022. An online version of the event was held in 2021 and hopefully, we can all get back to wandering around the city and exploring art installations in person this upcoming year.
The jazz fest that Toronto looks forward to every year has announced its first shows of 2022, which will run from June 24th to July 3rd. The festival will kick off with an early performance by Herbie Hancock on April 22nd at Meridian Hall. This will be the festival’s 35th year running, so you can definitely look forward to some incredible programming.
Toronto’s month-long Pride celebration plans to make a full return in 2022. Pride Toronto announced that a month of in-person activities and a jam-packed Pride Festival Weekend are being planned for this upcoming year, starting on June 1st and concluding on June 26th, 2022. A lineup of headliners and performances has already been announced and you can see the list here.
One of Toronto’s biggest music festivals of the year is making a comeback this summer and they’re inviting major headliners to the stage. VELD Music Festival will take place at Downsview Park at the end of July and will be bigger than ever with an additional day of live music.
The headliners this year include The Chainsmokers, Armin Van Buuren, Alesso, Marshmello, Martin Garrix, and Porter Robinson, as well as hip-hop acts Gunna and Polo G.
The county music fest that takes over Burl’s Creek every summer is coming back in a major way this August 2022. The festival will be headlined by Shania Twain, Florida Georgia Line, and Sam Hunt. Tickets are already on sale for the event, which will take place from August 4th to August 7th.
After two years of cancelled races, Toronto’s annual Indy is finally on track to return in 2022. The cars will start their engines on July 15th and will race around the Exhibition Place area until July 17th. Tickets aren’t up for sale yet, but stay tuned!
Toronto’s beloved street parades could finally be returning this spring, starting with the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Organizers have announced that this year’s parade will take place on Sunday, March 20th.
Described as “the largest Irish event in Canada,” Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is an event that the city has looked forward to every year. With the province slowly returning to normal life, the parade’s organizers are excited to welcome the public back to the celebration.
