Interesting Calgary facts that you may not have known before

The internet is a wide-open place, full of information – both of the useful and unusual variety. For example, did you know that the medical name for a butt crack is “intergluteal cleft” or that a duel between three people is actually called a truel?

Thanks to social media and, of course, Google, we’re a wealth of fun facts and sharing is caring so here are a few facts about Calgary you may not have known before!

  • The Calgary Stampede really is the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, featuring one of the world’s largest outdoor rodeos
  • Fish Creek Park is the second-largest urban park in all of Canada
  • The coldest temperature ever recorded in Calgary was a bone-chilling -45 °C
  • Cow-town is the home of the Caesar! Walter Chell invented the cocktail in 1969 to celebrate the opening night of an Italian Restaurant
  • Ginger Beef was also invented right here, by chef George Wong at Calgary’s Silver Inn
  • The median age in Calgary is a sprightly 38 years, making it a very young city
  • 33.3% of Calgary’s population have immigrated here, meaning people are willing to move here from all over the world!
  • According to WorldAtlas.com, Calgary is Canada’s sunniest city, with 333 average sunshine days per year
