With March around the corner, it’s only a matter of time before the weather gets warmer, the snow starts to melt, and spring is on our doorstep. But before all that arrives, we plan on making the most of the last few weeks of our Toronto winter. Even in this bizarre year, there’s plenty of ways to stay entertained.
Here are 10 things do to in Toronto before winter is over.
The most iconic rink in the city has got to be Nathan Phillips Square. If you haven’t dusted off your skates for this spot yet this season, now’s the time to. Just be sure to reserve your spot ahead of time as per COVID-19 regulations.
Where: 100 Queen St W
When: 3145 Lakeshore Blvd W
This festival was supposed to go down in February, but COVID-19 regulations forced it to move to March. So mark your calendars, people. Because some of the coolest ice sculptures are on their way to Toronto. This year’s theme is “A Trip Around the World.”
Where: Bloor-Yorkville, Toronto
When: Friday, March 12th – Sunday, March 14th
If you’ve never been to the islands in the winter, you’ve got to check it out. The place becomes an even more gorgeous version of the summer spot we know and love. You’ll get amazing views of the skyline, plus loads of outdoor space to roam around.
Where: Jack Layton Ferry Terminal, 9 Queens Quay W
Okay, picture this. An afternoon of tobogganing followed by a gorgeous sunset over the city skyline. That’s exactly what you’ll get when you hit up Riverdale Park East this winter. Fair warning, though – this steep hill is not for the faint of heart.
Where: 550 Broadview Ave
Mix it up this year with an outdoor snowshoeing trek. Sure, it’s not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think of winter in the city. But with all the space at High Park and all the snow on the ground, why not go for it anyway?
Where: 1873 Bloor St W
The ultimate outdoor art exhibit hits Woodbine Beach every winter in Toronto. This year, there’s been a few hiccups thanks to the pandemic. So for now, you’ll have to check out the artwork online. However, there is a plan to get everything up in person once restrictions are a little lighter, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Where: 1675 Lake Shore Blvd E or check them out online
You’ve got just about a week to enjoy three-course meals from some of Toronto’s finest. Sure, we don’t get to have a Winterlicious this year. But this awesome festival is just as good. You can support local, enjoy great eats, and give back to the community all in one. What more could you ask for?
Where: Find a list of participating restaurants here
When: Ends Thursday, March 7th
All month long, the Toronto Zoo is celebrating polar bears. This quintessential winter animal is steadily declining in population, so now’s as good a time as any to raise awareness. You can participate in their virtual #TZPolarBearChallenge and help raise funds for the animal here.
Where: Toronto Zoo, 2000 Meadowvale Rd or check it out online
When: All February long
Last but not least, we’ve got a winter classic. There are tons of amazing parks throughout the city with enhanced winter maintenance this year. So why not head out there and take advantage? You can admire the snow, get a little fresh air, and enjoy some exercise all in one.
