Got a little energy to burn off this weekend? One unique option is Rolla Skate Club, which has taken over the old Rollerland space at the PNE and started hosting their own evenings! What’s more, this is an adult’s only event, so no running into a four year old while trying to show off to your friends.

This long running celebration of performance art has opted for a hybrid setup this year, which means you can check something out in person or stream it from the comfort of your own home.

Speaking of virtual options, we’ve got the Vancouver Short Film Festival kicking off this weekend! Focusing on short films from all across Canada, the festival combines a wide variety of genres, ranging from comedy to horror to sci-fi. Opt in for a single programme, or indulge with a full pass!

On the flipside, the VIFF Centre is hosting this short film evening on Thursday night, but will offer virtual screenings for the next little while. Check out 4 short films and documentaries exploring a wide range of Indigenous narratives, with a roundtable discussion (that will also be available to stream) happening afterwards.

Although this is technically a part of LunarFest, it’s big enough that it deserves its own mention. With installations happening at both Granville Island and šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly known as the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza), The Lantern City brings together artists from all around Asia as well as local ones, making it a great option for those looking for some art.

Maybe a full day of skiing isn’t really your vibe, but you still want to get outside this weekend. Another great option is the Lights to the Lodge, a snowshoe light walk that will have you exploring Cypress Mountain’s nordic area, their historic Hollyburn Lodge, and more!

Wanting to take a breather from the rain? Your best bet is the Bloedel Conservatory, which houses hundreds of tropical plants and birds. That’s right, this is your own local oasis, and it’s sure to help you overcome those rainy day blues you might be feeling this weekend.
