Happy Thursday, Edmonton! We’ve got a couple of scorching days ahead, but we’re hoping things might cool down to cap the weekend off. Either way, there are a ton of indoor and outdoor options this weekend, and we’ve got some top picks to share with you.
Here are 10 of the best things to do this weekend in and around Edmonton.
Where’s summer without at least one trip to a local patio? Click the link above for some of our favourite picks, or just use this as an excuse to head back to your favourite neighbourhood haunt. We’re sure they’d be happy to see you again.

For a little local flare, you should definitely check out Together We Fringe, put on by the Edmonton Fringe Theatre. This 10-day long event features a mix of both in-person and virtual events, ranging from magic shows to 1-person plays and even some outdoor options!
When: On throughout the weekend
Where: Venues around Edmonton and online
Cost: Varies per event
The other festival we want to talk about this week is also the funniest! The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival features a ton of local talent, plus headliners like Chelsea Handler and David Spade. If you’re hoping for a little comic relief this summer, this is our top pick.
When: Friday, August 13th and Sunday, August 15th
Where: Edmonton Exhibition Lands Racetrack Infield
Cost: $69+ per person
Originally from Europe, this exhibition showcases the artist’s best works on a larger-than-life scale, using high-quality projectors and audio for a more immersive experience. If you’re looking for a fun blend of art and technology, then this is a great time.
When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 7515 118 Avenue NW
Cost: $41.61 and up for GA
There’s no question that the Art Gallery of Alberta is a rainy day must, but it also works when it’s super hot out. Head down to enjoy their amazing permanent and temporary exhibitions, and bask in a lovely climate-controlled building as an extra bonus!
When: Open Thursday to Sunday
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14 for GA
For a little bit different experience, we can’t recommend laser shows at Telus World of Science’s Zeidler Dome enough. This state-of-the-art theatre is one of the few places across Canada to still offer shows set to the likes of Pink Floyd and Daft Punk. Way better than sitting around a record player, that’s for sure.
When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 11211 142 Street NW
Cost: Included with admission
What’s new at the zoo? Well, you’ll have to see for yourself! All of their exhibits are now open, which means you get to enjoy some fun in the sun before cooling off in like the reptile house or something. Either way, it’s a great option for an afternoon adventure!
When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road
Cost: $10.95 (reduced price)
The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village has returned for the summer. This expertly preserved cultural village offers an authentic look at the lives of settlers during the late 19th/early 20th century. Sure, it’s a little bit of a curveball for a pick, but we like it!
When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: Highway 16 E, Lamont County
Cost: $15 for GA
It was a long time coming, but the Muttart Conservatory has returned to the city! This iconic Edmonton attraction is a must-do on those less than stellar summer days. Heck, we even like visiting when the sun is sharing, and especially if it’s paired with a walk in the park before or after.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: 9626 96a Street NW
Tickets: $14.95 for GA
Like the Muttart Conservatory, Fort Edmonton Park park closed down for some (even more serious) renovations, and this is the summer where we get to enjoy them! From an updated midway to brand new things like an Indigenous Peoples Experience, this is going to be amazing to visit once more.
When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 7000 143 Street NW
Cost: $26.20 for GA
