Summer is in full swing, and we’ve got some fun news for ya! PARK and Deerfoot City have teamed up once again to launch the unreal #YYCBlockParty for the second year in a row. After a successful first season in 2020, #YYCBlockParty is back for another year of celebrating summer and local artists, all while helping Calgarians ease back into public spaces.
“Building on last year’s success, we look forward to creating another vibrant, safe and interactive space for all Calgarians to enjoy this summer, complete with a basketball hoop, tetherball, ping pong, and more” says Deerfoot City.
To bring the second year installation to life, Deerfoot City and PARK collaborated with 4 creatively diverse local artists Michelle Hoogveld, Cory Budgen, Kiran Rai and Sydonne Warren.
This contemporary 215-foot hand painted road mural will not only act as extended patio space but also as a place where shoppers can sit, take photos, play outdoor games, race on the track, and visit with friends and family.
Accompanied by picnic tables, benches and coordinating umbrellas, the 215-foot installation has been impressively complimented by Hoogveld’s signature weaving patterns and bold colour blocks.
This mural can practically be enjoyed from anywhere within the retail space. Grab a bite to eat at one of the vendors and sit at collaborating artist, Cory Bugden’s tabletops. Hopscotch along boardwalk, play a game of tetherball, or strike a pose in front of Kiran Rai’s panoramic summer-inspired mural.
Guests will all summer to explore over 12,000 square feet of open-air space that has specifically been set up with proper spacing and distancing measures to meet Alberta Health Guidelines.
Stay safe, and stay entertained even outside of popular destinations like The Rec Room, and iFly, all throughout the summer, and make sure to tag them at @destinationdeerfootcity and to use their hashtag, #YYCBlockParty when you check it out!
The mural will be up and photo-ready for the public on July 2nd through ’til the end of summer, but don’t wait too long to see it for yourself! Maybe we’ll see you out there!
