You can visit a field of one million sunflowers for FREE in an unexpected spot near Toronto

Turns out, you don’t need to trek all the way out to the boonies to see a field of golden sunflowers — you can find one right in the GTA! One million sunflowers are now in their fourth annual bloom just off of Lakeshore Rd. in Mississauga near the Waterfront Trail.

You can find The Lakeview Village Sunflowers at the corner of Lakeshore Rd. and Hydro Rd., and they’re completely free to visit.

Not only can you wander among the captivating golden blooms, but you can also see local artwork and live performances as part of the Sunsets & Sounds concert series.

This Wednesday, August 10, amid the backdrop of one million sunflowers, award-winning piano player, singer, and composer Tyler Yarema will take the stage for Sunsets & Sounds’ second-last night.

This is the fourth summer in a row that the flowers have been planted at this site, to revitalize the area as it undergoes its transformation into Lakeview Village, a massive mixed-use community made up of residential, retail, cultural and employment spaces.

The sunflowers are not only a stunning sight to see while the community comes to life, but the field also plays a key role in restoring the natural ecosystem of the site that was previously occupied by a coal-fired powerplant.

“As phytoremediators, sunflowers actively support the rehabilitation of native species such as butterflies, bugs and bees while optimizing soil, pollinating other plants and supporting other forms of local of wildlife,” said Lakeview Village in a press release.

It’s worth noting that there’s no parking available on site. The best way to access them is by public transit, bike, or on foot. Bike parking is available at the Lakeview Village Sunflower Deck. Also, flower picking is prohibited to allow native species like butterflies and bees to exist peacefully.

If you really want to make the most of sunflower season this year, a farm near Toronto is hosting a festival among its golden blooms this month.
