YongeTOmorrow is planning a major revitalization to one of Toronto’s busiest streets

Let’s be real. There’s no Toronto without Yonge Street. Whether it’s tourists stopping to take photos at Yonge-Dudas Square, or locals hitting the Eaton Centre and nearby restaurants, Yonge Street is the heartbeat of Toronto. So now that the city wants to give it a little makeover, people are interested. This brings us to the YongeTOmorrow project.

The YongeTOmorrow project is a city initiative dedicated to revitalizing Toronto’s most iconic strip. Months of research and consumer data has been put together to determine how to make Yonge Street the best it can be. Now, a plan is ready and it focuses on improving the street for Toronto’s pedestrians.

The plan focuses on the section of Yonge Street between College/Carlton Street and Queen Street, where there is definitely some room for improvement. Since it’s one of the busiest parts of the city,  this project aims to add more space and protection for cyclists and pedestrian priority areas. We’re talking walking spaces, urban parks & landscaping, and even more bike lanes.

If you’d like to read the full YongeTOmorrow report, you can do so here.

This report is set to be presented at the Infrastructure and Environment Committee Meeting on Monday, January 11th. City officials will discuss the environmental assessment and recommendations for the Yonge Street plan.

All-in-all, the hope is that Yonge Street will become a safer, more accessible, and more functional area of Toronto. It’s already one of the city’s most popular spots, so it might as well become as beautiful as it can.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
